Week 2 Story: Pizza Rat

Pizza Rat

New York City's Infamous Pizza Rat

Once there was a small grey cat that was adopted. The small grey cat moved into a house with two very obnoxious Yorkies. Every morning when their mom left, she loved them for work she would pick up eat of them and tell them how much. Each time she picked up the small grey cat that Yorkies would bark and growl untie she put the small grey cat down. One morning before the mom left, she asked her pets what they would like from the farmers market. The Yorkies replied with a list from demands ranging from meats to new collars and even requested coconut water. The mom turned to the small grey cat and asked if she wanted anything. The small grey cat asked for nothing but if she saw yarn at the market. The mom kissed them all goodbye and left for work. After work, the mom took the train and traveled to the farmer's market. She gathered all the Yorkies requested and rushed back to the metro station to get on the last train. Just as she ran to the station the train started pulling away. Stranded, the mom decided to walk home until she saw a Lime scooter. As she was walking down the street, she saw a colorful yarn ball in the alley so she picked it up and put it in her pocket. Moments later a rat approached the mom about the yarn. The rat said the only way to repay for the yarn is if she gives the small grey cat to the rat or he would take all the Yorkies' toys. The mom finally found a Lime scooter and return home to tell the small grey cat that she had to live with the rat to repay for the yarn. The small grey cat called and Uber to the rats. When the small grey cat got to the rat's the rat told the small grey cat she must bring him a large-sized Empire pepperoni pizza each night for the rat's dinner. On the third day the rat told the small grey cat he must poison him with everything bagel seasoning from Trader Joe's. The small grey cat refused and the rat said if she didn’t, he would take all the Yorkies' toys. The small grey cat poisoned the rat and out emerged a spider from the rat's body. The small grey cat took his Yeezy sneaker and killed the spider. Out of nowhere, a bright light appeared and the most luscious cat appeared. He explained that he was the rat and that they were destined to be together. The cat and the rat lived happily ever after.

  1. Hi Grace!

I thought this modern retelling of the story was very funny to read! The pop culture references like the Lime scooter and the Yeezy shoe were amusing, but you still managed to keep the main story frame. I was intrigued by the "pizza rat" image you showed and had to click on the link to read the article. I had never heard of the pizza rat, but I think it is interesting and also connects with your urban theme!

  2. Hey Grace!

Let me tell you, you picked an interesting image. The pizza rat definitely intrigued me. I thought your story was fun and simple, which makes it more enjoyable because it isn't overly complicated. I just suggest in the future you use more white space. You can break the story up into multiple paragraphs (imagine it like pages in a children's book) and readers won't be intimidated by a big block of text!

  3. Hi Grace.

This is definitely a fun retelling of the original story. The modern touches you implemented were humorous at times, I don't know if I would want to kill a spider with my Yeezy sneaker haha. I would definitely take a moment to reread this story though. There are some moment where the wording is just a little confusing so it takes some time to figure out the meaning. Also, it may make the story a little easier to read if you add some dialogue, especially when the rat and the cat are exchanging with each other about the rat's demands. Great start for a first story!
